Our baby classes use sensory activities, music, flashcards and playful learning games to support early memory, language and concentration. Parents also learn simple ways to continue their child’s learning at home.

Toddler Classes in Burwood (1 to 3 years)
Fast-paced, varied activities suit the way toddlers learn through movement, repetition and active participation. Children build early language, numeracy, memory, fine motor and social skills while learning alongside a parent.

Our preschool classes develop early literacy, numeracy, memory, spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills. Children also learn to concentrate, persist and approach challenges with growing confidence. New students must begin the Shichida program before turning five.

Kids Classes in Burwood (5 to 9 years)
Pre-primary classes extend children’s early learning through reading, number activities, memory games, creative writing and problem-solving. This stage helps children apply their skills with growing confidence and independence, and is available to those who began Shichida before turning five.
What Do Parents Say?
What is the Shichida Method?

Enhance Parent-Child Bond
Shichida uses a whole-brain approach, bringing together memory, language, numeracy, fine motor skills, imagination and social-emotional learning in one class. Children take part in 20 to 25 short, varied activities designed to hold their attention and introduce a broad range of skills.
Activities are revisited and extended as children progress through the program. This combination of variety, repetition and increasing challenge helps children build strong learning foundations without placing pressure on them to perform.
Developed by Japanese educator Professor Makoto Shichida in 1958, the method has grown internationally. Since Shichida opened in Australia in 2009, more than 18,000 families have attended our classes.
Class Times, Fees and Open Hours
Shichida Burwood runs classes Monday to Saturday. Groups are formed around children of a similar age rather than set to a fixed grid, so the quickest way to find a slot is to tell us your child’s date of birth and which days work.
Centre hours: Monday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:30pm.
Ten weeks to a term, four terms a year, with two replacement classes built into every term. Public holidays aren’t charged. Week 7 is when re-enrolment for the following term is handled.
Why Parents Choose Shichida Burwood
- A spacious, purpose-built centre: With two floors and eight classrooms, Burwood offers a bright and welcoming environment for children and families.
- A dedicated team of seven: Our close-knit team takes the time to get to know each child and support their progress through the program.
- Convenient parking nearby: Westfield Burwood offers two hours of free parking. Exit via Victoria Street East for the five-minute walk along Burwood Road.
- Extended Saturday classes: Burwood runs classes from Monday to Saturday, with extended Saturday hours providing more options for families who prefer weekend classes.
- A comfortable waiting area: Families can use the book corner and colourful ottomans while waiting for class.
Local families are often looking ahead to Burwood Public School, Holy Innocents’ Primary School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Croydon or MLC Junior School. Each school day requires children to listen, follow instructions, take turns and participate confidently in a group.
Shichida helps children practise these skills while also building early literacy, numeracy, memory, problem-solving and independent thinking. These abilities develop gradually through varied, age-appropriate activities as children progress through the program.
